For a first time chat dreamed up in a week; I am very pleased to say that this was a GREAT Tweet Chat! I knew we had it in us! In about 90 minutes, we tweeted over 288 times about adoption issues. And yes, one can have an in depth conversation with only 140 characters!

Real Time Chats About Adoption on Twitter
In the social media world, Twitter Chats are a huge thing where at a selected time and date, people get together on Twitter in real time and chat. It's kind of like the good old fashioned chat rooms of our old favorite forums, except that you have to get your point across in 140 characters as it is on Twitter!Adoption is NOT Represented in Twitter Chats!
I have combed through the massive public Google document that IS the industry list to Twitter chats and there are NOT adoption chats listed at all. Which is kind of surprising in one way, because historically I have seen that as a community, we adoption peeps are usually somewhat on the cutting edge! In fact, not even the happy rainbow fart side of adoption has a chat scheduled though overall the hashtag #adoption does gets used consistently.Twitter Chat Adoption What? What You Need To Do:
First you have to have a Twitter Account to participate. If you have one and know what I am talking about , then cool. If not then go to Twitter and join. It's really easy and takes about 5 minutes with the standard operating procedure; pick a user name, your email and verify, add a picture to your profile. No biggie.Then on Sunday at 4pm EST, sign into Twitter. Now some people like a Tweetchat on Tweetdeck, but I have never been a huge fan of Tweetdeck myself. I say, if you use it and like it then it works for chats. I have used Twitter directly by searching for the Twitter Chat Hashtag of choice and then just using Twitter directly. Since it was not claimed at all, I'm going for the full on generic, but highly searchable, #AdoptionChat. You'll have to refresh your search sometimes and then include #AdoptionChat in your Tweet so it stays in the stream of conversation.
However, the easiest way to participate once you are on Twitter is to go to TweetChat because it's created to make Twitter Chats easier! It adds the hashtag automatically so you don't have to keep that copied and saved on your clipboard and remember to include it to every tweet. The Future of #AdoptionChat on Twitter
Twitter chats can be weekly or monthly or whenever. I'm thinking that depending on who participates, that a weekly thing might be needed. I randomly picked Sunday afternoon because I know we don’t DO anything outside watching football on Sundays through February, but that can be changed if we find a better day that works for folks.Twitter chats frequently have guest hosts and topics, and I don’t think we'll run out of either anytime soon! Being that this is the will be the FIRST Adoption Twitter Chat on the LAST Sunday of National Adoption Awareness Month, I think it would be very appropriate to discuss how the REAL people affected by adoption feel about the choices of the Awareness campaigns.
