The time has come..
...that I must say good-bye to one of my dearest and finest companions. I have known that this time was coming, in fact it is long over due, but I dreaded it never-the-less. It's just not a healthy relationship, really. There is a co-dependancey, some enabling, and in the long run, well..lets just say that things that pretend to be your friends, usually are exactly the opposite. Snake in the grass, really. I know no good will come of keeping them close.
But it's gonna be real hard. I mean, after all, we have been together, on and off, (though mostly on for the last ten years or so) for over twenty years. And it's not a simple thing to just say "NO!" when usually, I convince myself that "yes" is what I want. Like the Song to the Sirens, I get seduced, beguiled, sucked into a mindset where I end up doing exactly what I don't want. But it has to end. It's gonna end here.
I'm done. I WILL BE DONE! I know I have said it all before, but it feels different this time. I am ready.
I quit smoking today.
Good bye, my constant companions, my calmers of nerves, the hankie to dry my tears, my de stressers, my lullabyes, my wakeup calls, my driving buddies...good bye, good bye..and don't let the door hit you on the way out!
You are no friends of mine. Sucking up all my money and my life. I will rid this continious cough, the stink of the ashtray, the desire to inhale! I will save my 5 bucks a day, times two coz Rye quit too..and keep that 3 grand a year in my pocket. Screw you, Phillip Morris!! I want a new car!! I want to go to Disney World! I want to BREATHE!!!!!
Maybe I'll even take up exercising.....HA HA!!!!
No seriously, pray that my children live though this time of extreme Mommy bitchiness. Yeah, this will be overlapping with PMS..in about 3 days. Pray that Rye and I don't kill each other. Last time we seriously tried to quit..we almost did..the fighting was insane... and then went..."Nah, let's just smoke for the sake of our relationship" But yeah, I am done.
Buh bye!
I QUIT!

Hey, you can do it!
ReplyDeleteGood luck and big HUGS.
MaeDay
So? This post? Coupled with today's stress and the fact that a book just made me snot all over myself? Made me want a cigarette. And it's been a LONG TIME. (Before Nick, yo!)
ReplyDeleteYOU CAN DOOOOOOOOO IT! I have faith in you!
I quit 22 years ago on The Great American Smokeout Day in November 1985. Like you, I was tired of the coughing and the smell, which I couldn't smell but seemed like everyone else could! lol
ReplyDeleteThe reason I quit though was that I read about the profits that the cigarette companies make... and it pissed me off. I had kids; I was poor and I was giving them all that money???? AND it made me stink???
Anyway, it's just a habit. You're gonna have to distract yourself every time you get antsy for a week or 10 days, but you can do it! Lotsa people do!
wow congratulations claude.
ReplyDeletei myself attempted to quit on the wkd but failed miserably.
this is no small feat.
way to go gurl!!!
congrats. good luck. my mother quit after fifty years - yes, fifty - of smoking. she was up to like three packs a day. she is doing great. keep busy! really busy. find a oral substitute (mom used lollipops) or a way to keep your hands busy (she crocheted). you are such a strong woman. you can definitely do this!
ReplyDeleteI don't miss them. I haven't had a cigarette for more than nine years.
ReplyDeleteIt's the best thing to do, quit smoking.
Good for you Claud. Take it a day at a time. Have you read the Allan Carr book? It's a good read when you quit smoking, it helps you stay off them.
You might even take up singing, that's a good alternative to smoking.
So happy that you are blogging again.
Yeah, Ok..this sucks.
ReplyDeleteYesterday I felt seriously like I was ON drugs...today, not so physical, but I am VERY spacy..and don't feel like doing much of anything..except maybe yelling and crying.
I think I might seriously have to hit RYe o the head with a brick. Or take up smoking until Tristan is 18 for the good of the family.
I recently did the Chantix with great results! It takes away the nicotine kick so even if you do smoke it is very unsatisfying.
ReplyDeleteI get a little jumpy but it ain't too bad.
Also, the Chantix takes away my appetite so I don't feel like eating everything in sight.
yeah claud YOU CAN DO IT!! excellent decision :)
ReplyDeleteYay, CLAUD!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou can do it.
Stay strong.
