I signed it, and I wrote a letter to the editor at the Akron Beacon Journal as follows:

Dear Editor,

I'm willing to wager that most mothers have, at least once, wished their child had come at a more convenient time. Marry that one-time wish to a $1.5 billion industry (and their cronies) who busy themselves with scouring the nation for product, and you get Stephanie Bennett.

Stephanie went to her high school counselor at the time she had that wish. Instead of counseling her and learning the true situation, he seized the opportunity to supply precious product to his cronies at A Child's Waiting. In whose best interest did this man act? Certainly not Stephanie's. Certainly not Evelyn's grandparents. And most certainly not Evelyn herself.

Further, once Stephanie was in the clutches of A Child's Waiting, instead of counseling her and learning the true situation, they acted in their own best interests first, then those of their client. The child, her mother and grandparents were a distant third - to the extreme of flatly ignoring a court order to turn Evelyn over to her grandparents.

Mothers and babies are not interchangeable. Adoption is supposed to be for children in need of families - not for couples in need of children. What is Western "Civilization" coming to???

Deeply saddened,
