Adoption Reform: Let's make it happen!
I have two open MSN groups that right now are decidated to adoption reform. Neither have much going on in them.

NationalInfantAdoptionReformAct
/_whatsnew.msnw
Has been open for two years now. I have the rough draft of the actual Congresional Bill on it. It needs revisions, facts to support it, and lots of work.
Also,

Adoption/messages.msnw?&pps=k
Is basically an inactive group, but is also decicated to reform.
Both have open enrollment..meaning just join.
I think there is more happening and more to work from on the first NIARA site.
Let's go...

I've actually been sitting here editing the bill for the past few days:)
ReplyDeleteAnd YOU get my favorite person of the week award!!!
ReplyDeleteOMG..really??
I am sitting here with a goofy smile on face.
I don't know if it helps any, but the footprint of the bill was..ugg Have to llok it up..
Ok I think it was http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?c106:13:./temp/~mdbsZ9Qugy::
Bill H.R.2909 ...I might have been using an earlier vesion. hen this one. I HAD the original saved, but had a hard drive melt down a few months ago and it was lost.
ANyway..I think the bill itself can be pare down considerably in its wacky congrssional bil language. But I haven't dared do anything really yet.
Oh..I am soooo ecixcited!
i'll keep pecking away at it and send it your way when i'm done :)
ReplyDeleteYou might be interested in this because it pertains to New York adoption law. Also click on "articles" when you are there; interesting article about how more and more agencies have more babies than prospective adoptive parents available. Mason, the adoptee

ReplyDeleteFUll text of the Adoption Reform Act just passed by Illinois after the baby Tamara scandle.
I haven't looked at it all though yet with a fine tooth comb, but it is a good indicator of what can get passed..on a state level!

ReplyDeleteMy apologies for not posting the link with my comment. Just another manic Monday.
Good luck with this pursuit.

Ah yes, unsealed iniative..petitions signed, letters written...want to go to Albany as it is 40 minutes away.
ReplyDeleteis there a good anthology of stories of mothers who have placed their children for adoption? stories that really tell the truth of that experience? and is there a good anthology by all members of the adoption triad specifically about the need for adoption reform? seems like these are much needed if they don't already exist. seems also that the raw material is all out here waiting in the blogosphere. and there are even a lot of "real" writers out there who know things about editing and shopping book proposals and such stuff. what do you think?
ReplyDeleteThat was one of my first "big ideas" when I found the adoption boards and talking to others.
ReplyDeleteI never did do it. But it is still a great idea. And yeah, the material is definalty out there.
The problem too though..I have found..some of the moms I know who have the saddest stories...they have just fallen off the map. I think it is their way of coping, survivng, but they don't "exist" anymore. And they would be the best stories for reform as they are all "new" horrors..that have happened in the last few years. So much for "things have changed"
So who is a "real life' writer..want an undertaking?
A friend of mine, who is a brithmother (but not mine unfortunately) is planning on starting a a blog on adoption forums just for birthmothers to share their stories thru her. Once she gets it running, I will post the link in the comments here if that's cool with fauxclaud.
ReplyDeleteI was just reading recently that the relinquishment time in PA was lowered from 6 months to 1 month. It may not have happened very recently, but I heard about it just the other day. I have to wonder how this stuff gets passed...stuff that goes in the opposite direction from reform...without any birthmothers or anyone else coming forward to speak out against it. I think if folks want adoption reform, there should be people who are constantly studying proposed laws in all the states to get involved before "bad" laws pass.
